On 11 October 2023- The Bartlett Development Planning Unit (DPU) at University Collage London (UCL) hosted an event focusing on critical themes of planning pedagogies, planning as activism, and planning as education in Palestine, with a particular emphasis on East Jerusalem and Area C of the West Bank.
Building on longstanding collaborations and research initiatives, the dialogue provided valuable insights into the challenges and strategies of urban planning in a context of political occupation and spatial fragmentation.
This engaging event featured:
- Professor Haim Yacobi, Bartlett DPU,
- Dr. Rami Nasrallah, Founder and Chairman of the International Peace and Cooperation Center (IPCC), and
- Dr. Lana Kudumovic, Associate Professor in Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture and Design, Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakif University.
The seminar highlighted the necessity of innovative planning approaches to navigate the complexities of urbanization in Palestine. It advocated for participatory, community-driven strategies and stronger international collaboration to build sustainable and resilient urban futures under the challenging conditions of occupation and limited sovereignty.
