Jericho, June 26-27, 2020-The International Peace and Cooperation Centre (IPCC), supported by the European Union, held a specialized training workshop in Jericho under the project "Facts on the Ground: Palestinian Community Initiatives in East Jerusalem." The event, attended by 25 lawyers and engineers, aimed to enhance participants' knowledge of urban planning, land registration, and local governance in East Jerusalem. The workshop also addressed amendments to the Planning and Building Law, unlicensed construction, and the legal challenges faced by residents in the area. All activities adhered to COVID-19 health and safety measures.
Speakers included Dr. Rami Nasrallah, who provided an overview of Jerusalem’s demographic and legal realities, and Eng. Abdullah Abu Qtaish, who discussed recent reforms in planning systems. Other highlights included sessions by Eng. Basel Qutaineh on Area C planning achievements and Lawyer Mohammad Abu Sunaina’s analysis of demolition orders in East Jerusalem. The workshop marked an important step in equipping local professionals to contribute to urban planning and advocate for community-driven solutions in East Jerusalem.
