IPCC holds an urban public design studio for the year 2018 which is part of “Facts on the Ground: Community Projects for Palestinians in East Jerusalem” project supported by the EU, under the supervision of foreign experts and with the participation of staff from IPCC.
The studio began on 24th November 2018 and included 18 students and graduates specialized in architecture and urban planning from Palestinian universities, including Birzeit University and An-Najah National University. The participants developed ideas for voluntary community initiatives during two weeks of theoretical and field work where they were distributed among three planning group, during which they participated in the development of five public spaces in East Jerusalem, which suffer from a lack of public facilities and the absence of adequate public space for the use of the population.
The groups worked on the following initiatives:
- Rehabilitating a stairway in Wadi Al-Joz,
- Rehabilitating a playground in Jabal Al-Mukabber,
- Developing a pathway in Al-Bustan area in Silwan,
- Developing a corner near the Ras Al-Amud Sports Club,
- Rehabilitating a stairway in Wadi Qaddum.
