The International Peace and Cooperation Center launched its new two years project "Youth for Change Agents: Building Capacities to Define Public Space in Palestine" with the support of the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF). The project started on 1st Feb 2017 and will be based in the West Bank, Palestine and seeks to address the problem of low participation and recognition of young people in decision making in Palestine, specifically in shaping the design of urban and rural public space.
The main project objective is to increase Palestinian youth awareness of, and participation in, their Urban Rights, and the creation of Urban Space, through training and participation in Social Audits of local councils and design of community initiatives.
The overarching strategic approach is to train youth through theoretical and practical learning, giving them experience in engaging with local level politics, and implementing real change through the design of community initiatives. Through this approach the engaged youth will feel a greater sense of belonging and ownership as a part of society, and be compelled to continue to participate in the political and community process. The project is designed to reach a wide audience, working in all 11 Governorates of the West Bank, and with equal numbers of males and females, whilst seeking to engage with physically disabled youth in order to create an active youth engaging with a variety of different spatial and political needs.
