The International Peace and Cooperation Center (IPCC) is actively engaged in East Jerusalem to safeguard Palestinian urban rights and resist policies that undermine their development. The center provides legal and technical support to Palestinian residents in objecting to Israeli master plans that restrict Palestinian growth while favoring Israeli settlements. By advocating for equitable urban policies, the IPCC helps ensure Palestinian neighborhoods are not marginalized in the planning and development process. Additionally, the organization promotes inclusive alternative development plans that prioritize the needs and rights of the Palestinian community.
A key focus of the IPCC’s efforts is raising awareness about land registration and the implications of recent Israeli plans on Palestinian landownership. Through workshops, public campaigns, and community engagement, the IPCC educates residents about their rights and the legal frameworks affecting their properties. This awareness empowers Palestinians to navigate complex bureaucratic challenges and assert their claims over their land. By addressing these critical issues, the IPCC plays a pivotal role in advocating for urban justice, propose planning, and the preservation of Palestinian identity in East Jerusalem.
In 2024, three groups from the communities of Silwan, Sheikh Jarrah, Beit Hanina, and Wadi al-Jouz convened to address critical issues impacting their neighborhoods. These discussions focused on the objection to the City Center plan, which was approved at the end of 2024, and the Silicon Wadi project, which threatens existing buildings in Wadi al-Jouz with demolition. The groups also discussed the new land registration efforts in Sheikh Jarrah aimed at favoring Jewish settlers and the confiscation of land for parking and festival areas designated for Jewish holidays. In December 2024 Isreal demolished the park and the community association in Al Bustan that constructed in partnership of IPCC, the support to al Bustan included organizing visits by European diplomats and parliamentarians and support community.
